Cultivating the Healing Energy of the Body and Mind
You may remember that children we celebrated life with a buoyant, carefree, vital engagement in the everyday moment. But as we grew older, we began to tense up, to close down and lose touch with our bodies, experiencing our lives in our heads. We don't trust our feelings, our intuition, our gut reaction to things, and we lose our fluid integrity as fully expressive and responsive human beings. Stress plays a large part in creating these responses, and finding ways to reduce our body's responses to stress is paramount in this highly technological, fast-paced age. Our nervous systems are constantly reacting to a barrage of intrusions: phone calls, faxes, e-mails, frenzied traffic and mind-numbing schedules. Life seems to have become more of a struggle, with less rather than more time to rest.
There is a simple way that we can recapture the youthful joy of being alive.
The Most Effective Self-Care System in the World
We can learn ways to reclaim our peace of mind - and restore balance and tranquility in our lives through the exercises of the ancient healing art of Qigong. PDP II is dedicated to teaching our global community ways to bring balance back into their lives. One of the programs PDP II offers is BreatheStrong, a system of deep breathing techniques to breathe long, deep, even and smoother, bringing life-giving oxygen into every cell of the body. Breathing this way, consistently, helps to activate the lymph systems, detoxify the body and send a gentle stream of energizing oxygen into the tissues. The activation of the lymph system automatically triggers a relaxation response throughout the body, helping us to feel balanced and "well."
Internal Relaxation
Rubbo Art of Energy system emphasizes mindfulness, directing one's intention to bring about internal relaxation, shifting the body out of the sympathetic nervous system (associated with fight-or-flight, our normal reaction to stress) and into the parasympathetic nervous system (associated with feelings of pleasure and harmony). Over time, an over-active sympathetic nervous system will deplete the adrenals and flood the body with toxic levels of cortisol. A daily, mindful practice of Qigong exercises will bring you back into the gentle world of the parasympathetic, and allow you to cultivate a different, relaxed response to stress. Significant healing occurs on a daily basis with Qigong practice.
Integration
Practicing Qigong allows us to harmonize the three major centers (dan tiens): the third eye area, the heart center and the lower abdomen. Through its emphasis and cultivation of all three centers, Qigong allows us to respond with maximum resilience to the stress in our lives. We learn how to store and conserve our energy, and stay calm, whatever the pressure. We learn how to gain control of our inner states of being and take responsibility for enhancing the quality of our lives. These are skills you can use and apply for the rest of your life.
