April 26, 2008World Tai Chi and Qigong Day
10:00 am to 12:00 noon. Gerstle Park, San Rafael
One World - One Breath. Founded by Bill Douglas in 1999, this annual event is held on the last Saturday of April each year. World T’ai Chi and Qigong Day promotes the related disciplines of T’ai Chi Ch’uan and Qigong, and this event has grown to include more than sixty countries and hundreds of schools. Donald and Cheryl Lynne Rubbo were among the first Tai Chi and Qigong teachers to embrace Bill’s vision of a special day for educating the world about the profound health benefits of practicing this ancient art. For more information on World Tai Chi and Qigong Day, visit Bill’s website at www.WorldTaiChiDay.org.
June 8, 2008Kuo Lien Ying Memorial
7:00 am. Portsmouth Square, San Francisco
733 Kearny Street in Chinatown. Grandmaster Kuo Lien Ying’s direct students celebrate the life and teachings of one of the most distinguished and revered martial artists of the twentieth century. We will gather in the spirit of the Guang Ping Yang community to pay homage to our teacher, participate in group sets, watch demonstrations from different schools, and enjoy dim sum afterward at a local restaurant. Everyone is welcome to join us at historic Portsmouth Square, the site of Kuo’s studio where his dedicated students practiced every morning at 5:00 am, in the fog, in the rain and under starry morning skys. For more information, call 415.459.9098.
